Bridging the gap: Christine Ann transitional housing program

In 2018, The Women’s Fund, in collaboration with Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services and Evergreen Retirement Community, implemented the Rise 2.0 initiative, attempting to break the cycle of poverty one family at a time.

Fast forward to 2024, Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services is making that pilot initiative into a permanent program. In the pilot, affordable housing emerged as a major barrier to self-sufficiency for single mothers.

Supported by a $25,000 Women’s Fund grant, their newly introduced Transitional Housing Program takes inspiration and learning from the Rise 2.0 collaboration. A newly purchased building will provide eleven apartments for domestic violence survivors, including single adults of any gender, as well as families, giving them a safe place to live for up to two years. Focused on education, financial literacy, and self-sufficiency, the program aims to help survivors rebuild their lives.

This support means that Christine Ann can provide not just a roof over survivors’ heads, but also the resources and guidance needed to break the cycles of abuse and poverty.
— Alicia Wenger, Christine Ann Executive Director

The Women’s Fund grant will support costs directly related to the program, bridging the gap and supporting Christine Ann’s clients to regain self-sufficiency. Program costs range from onsite staff supportive care, utilities, repairs and maintenance, and client financial assistance, such as bus passes.

The need for transitional housing in our community is urgent, and Christine Ann’s new program fills a critical gap. The Women’s Fund is proud to continue the invaluable work of this initiative and help create a safe, stable future for these individuals.

The Women’s Fund remains dedicated to its mission, adapting to evolving needs. With every grant, the Fund empowers individuals and strengthens the community, leaving a legacy of hope and opportunity for future generations. Thank you for making this impactful work possible.
