For Christmas 2003, Sue McFarlane sent a very touching letter with her Christmas cards. She wrote…
On December 8, 1983, I interviewed for an office position for the new oral surgery practice in Fond du Lac. It was necessary that I provide a supplemental income for my family. Fortunately, I was hired for that position making it possible to fulfill my potential as a person, educate my child, and create a home for our family.
On the twentieth anniversary of that interview, I am celebrating my blessed life by establishing the Susan K. McFarlane Fund of the Women's Fund of the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation. Contributions to the fund will be used as grants for worthy causes involving women and children to include literacy, transportation, and parenting. It is my intent that every woman that desires to provide stability for herself, and her family, can have the benefit of this fund.
Sue has seen first-hand the importance of programs that help other women. When I asked her about why she chose to establish a fund under the Women’s Fund umbrella, she told me she has seen so many cases where women do not have the resources or the advocates to get themselves out of difficult situations. That, she says, is why it is so important to have resources available to help women face any challenges.
Sue, thank you for your interest in helping other women.
